Hyperbaric oxygen therapy means increased pressure in a chamber, with one hundred percent oxygen. So what it does is you breathe in the oxygen, it goes through your red blood cells into your plasma, that pressure pushes that on through, it goes deep into your tissue where you may have poor circulation and damaged tissue. Here at Baptist Health Hardin's Wound Care Center, we try to spread the word about hyperbarics because it is vitally important if you've got a bad diabetic wound, radiation tissue damage, or a surgical wound that's not healing. And it does many, many other things.
It reduces inflammation. It fights bacteria and helps promote wound healing. So it's pretty cool. Baptist Health Hardin's Foundation has provided us with a fourth chamber, which is wonderful because it has given patients access to come to the hospital and get their treatments here, less stress, less travel, and get their treatment close by locally, and then be able to go on with their day.
The addition of our fourth hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber not only allows us to care for more patients, but also expands access for veterans seeking this therapy as part of their treatment for traumatic brain injury, post traumatic stress disorder, or both. This investment helps us reach more individuals who can benefit from this specialized care.
