The Baptist Cancer Risk Assessment Program, is really an effort for us to more proactively identify patients that are at a higher risk for breast cancer and other cancers. We could connect them to high risk clinics and genetic testing if needed so that they then could be watched more closely based on having a better understanding of their risks. The generosity of the donors to the Foundation has allowed us to bring on knowledgeable, skilled navigators who are able to make contact with patients who have elevated risks. And those navigators then are really able to act as a resource to make sure those patients feel supported. And it's really helped reduce some of the barriers that we saw, not only in patients having access to risk assessment, but having access to things like genetic testing.

And the success of a program like this really hinges on our ability to connect the patient to those downstream resources. So we'd really like to thank the donors that have supported this work. Without the generosity of the donors that have contributed to Baptist Health Foundation, we wouldn't be able to have programs like this in place.
Sara Campbell, MS, director of genetic counseling, explains how the Baptist Cancer Risk Assessment Program identifies patients at higher risk for breast and other cancers. With the support of donors, skilled navigators guide patients to genetic testing and high-risk clinics, breaking down barriers and providing personalized support. Discover how this program is making proactive care possible and why donor contributions are vital to its success.
