Here at Baptist Health Paducah, we're expanding our OR and adding three more operating rooms, to the existing operating room suites. We've taken a systematic approach to evaluating the needs for our operating rooms and then upgrading some very basic infrastructure with things like surgical lights, the surgical booms that are in the rooms, monitors to enhance sharing of information within the room. And then we've also been able to in some of the rooms, to add advanced integration where we can take images either from a CT scan or from an MRI. And then also patient's vitals, we can display all of those things in the room for team so that they can all be aware of what's going on with the patient and also better plan and execute their existing cases.
Our unsung heroes in the surgical department are the folks that work in the central sterile processing department where they clean and sterilize the instruments each day. So with this project, we're going to grow the footprint of that department to keep up with current and future demand. We're also adding more capacity with more washers and sterilizers. So it's really supporting them in the critical mission of the hospital.
So from a philanthropic standpoint, Baptist Health Paducah has had great support from our local benefactors. Over the years, we've been incredibly fortunate to have their support in things such as the Eckstein Cancer Center, the NICU renovation, mother baby expansion, Carson-Myre Heart Center, the Howerton Cath Labs. And we're excited about the potential partnership that we'll have as we expand our surgical services here at Baptist Health. When I think about philanthropy at the hospital, especially appealing to me is the impact that we're having on healthcare across the region and across the generations.
So having that support from generous benefactors allows us to grow our programs, to design the healthcare that's provided here at Baptist Health with the mission of being able to provide health care throughout our region for many, many years to follow.
