When Wadji Kfoury, MD, decided to dedicate his life to treating infectious diseases in the patients he encounters, he didn’t realize that was only the beginning of how he would impact the community he is proud to be a part of.

“I originally came to Kentucky in the early-2000s and began working as a physician treating various infections, from fungal contaminations to very complicated cases that were significantly impacting a patient’s quality of life,” said Dr. Kfoury. “Before I knew it, I was treating five times the number of patients I needed. I was so busy that I had decided to take a step back and move into primary care. Shortly after, I realized how important access to an infectious disease specialist was for our area and stepped into various full-time roles to help move healthcare forward and continue bringing new types of available care to this area.”

“For a small community to have all that we do is no small feat,” he said. “It is evidence of a healthcare system that is dedicated to doing the most we can to answer the needs that arise and ensure that the community we serve has access to lifesaving, essential care.”

For Dr. Kfoury, his patients are more than a number. As a physician who is invested in the well-being of all those around him, and especially his two daughters, he was excited to learn about an expansion that will benefit the entire regional area. “The project will expand access to care, provide more advanced technology, attract more physicians, allow for space to serve the demand we are seeing, and will create an impact that ripples for years to come.”

“The medical tower is for future generations,” he said. “It can benefit my family, friends and patients, whether they work there or receive treatment. Thinking about those who come after me is incredibly important. I want to make a difference now, but what else can I do for others? How can I ensure a better future for my children, for my children’s children, and for future generations of patients?”

Through direct patient care, Dr. Kfoury has been able to witness the necessity of healthcare and the need for constant innovation. He also understands the importance of investing in the health of entire populations.

“By giving back to the foundation, it’s one area where I know exactly where my money goes,” he said. “Baptist Health has a transparency that you don’t find everywhere. I see my patients benefiting from my support, and I know to them it makes a world of difference. I trust the process. I see the impact. I know we are making a difference for thousands of people and working for the good of others. To me, it is more than a job, and this is a way that I can give back beyond the medicine, and to me, that is money well spent.”
