Philanthropy for our NICU here at Baptist Health Floyd, has made a huge impact on our families. It is because of donations and the support of our community that we've really been able to open our doors two years ago and be able to be what we needed for over three hundred families.
I have a deep seated love for babies and a passion for helping others.
So knowing that I get to help the tiniest of babies, in the beginning of their lives, and I kinda shape that for the parents' future, that just makes all the difference in the world to me.
The NICU actually cares for the tiniest population.
We take care of babies that are thirty two weeks, gestation or better, weigh more than fifteen hundred grams, which is about three pounds. So as you can imagine, those babies are very tiny and they need a lot of extra support.
We can take care of babies that have respiratory distress, prematurity, premature lungs, babies that, might need antibiotics for a certain reason, babies that have low blood sugar, or even something as simple as, needing phototherapy for, a high jaundice level. I think one of the most important things about having the NICU here at Baptist Floyd in Southern Indiana is knowing that the parents can actually stay local to the area. Having a level two NICU here at the hospital with coverage provided by experienced providers that are in house for twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, can give those families a little bit of extra security and comfort knowing that their babies are well taken care of.
The gratitude that I feel towards those who donated to our NICU here at Baptist Health Floyd, we are beyond grateful for the care that it means for this community.
It is probably the best thing that I've been able to say throughout my thirty two years here is that we've opened a NICU and we've made an impact on these families. It is sheer joy. I think it's really vital to invest in, our tiniest of patients because they're our future. They really are. You know, if we don't help them from the beginning, then we don't know where they're gonna be at the end. So that's one of the reasons why I love doing what I I do. I love helping them in the beginning so we can make a bright future for them and their families.
