Rooted in Oldham County: Stephen Gibson’s mission to give back

For Stephen Gibson, Partner and Financial Planner at Guidance Capital, Oldham County is home in every sense of the word.
“I grew up in Oldham County and lived here my whole life,” Stephen said. “I went away for college and spent about five years in Columbus, Ohio, where my wife is from. But in 2013, we moved back."
Stephen’s business is based just minutes outside the county line, but his heart remains firmly planted in Oldham County. That deep connection is one of the many reasons he said “yes” without hesitation when asked to serve on the board of the newly formed Baptist Health Foundation Oldham.
“[Baptist Health La Grange President] Clint Kaho came to me and asked if I’d join. It was Oldham County – how could I say no?” Stephen recalled. “An organization like Baptist already had such a wonderful reputation. If I could help further not just the reputation, but the mission and the cause, then it was a no-brainer.”
Stephen first served on the Baptist Health Foundation Greater Louisville board, where he quickly saw the impact philanthropy has on patient care.
“When they share the story behind why we’re funding something, it’s amazing,” he said. “It gave me such a deeper appreciation of the difference Baptist makes.”
That appreciation grew even stronger when Stephen himself became a patient. After rupturing his Achilles tendon in the summer of 2025, he experienced Baptist Health care firsthand.
“I got in with a wonderful surgeon,” he said. “But even beyond that – in my time leading up to the surgery, there were people taking time from their lunch to give me an MRI, the RN who helped me prep for surgery – I mean, everything about Baptist and the culture is wonderful."
Now, as a board member in his own community, Stephen is focused on bringing that same standard of excellence to Oldham County.
“When people think of Oldham County, they may assume everyone here is doing alright —healthy or wealthy or otherwise – but I don't think that's the case,” he explained. “If we can help those who potentially can’t help themselves through better healthcare, it’s awesome.”
For Stephen, building the foundation in Oldham County is an opportunity to make a lasting impact.
“As great as the Greater Louisville Foundation is and all they’ve accomplished, I thought maybe I could have a bigger thumbprint here in Oldham County. To help start something from the ground up, work with others on the board, and grow it into a strong presence – that’s really exciting.”
At the heart of it all is a love for the place he calls home.
“Oldham County is unique and special,” Stephen said. “Some areas feel like a city, but just a few minutes down the road you’re in the country. I love driving on the back roads and taking in the beauty. Oldham County is a wonderful place to live with wonderful people, and I want to see this community thrive. I believe Baptist Health Foundation can play a big part in that.”
