Baptist Health 'walks the talk'

When Mike Cronan was in an automobile accident that left him with a head injury, his emergency medical team questioned his decision to go past the closest hospital. “I insisted on being taken to Baptist Health, and while it wasn’t the nearest medical facility, it has always been my hospital of choice and I knew it was the right option for any care I would need.”
After being rushed through the emergency department, physicians identified Mike had a subdural hematoma, a collection of blood that forms on the surface of the brain with the potential to put pressure on the brain or damage tissue. Following two burr hole procedures and a middle meningeal artery embolization, Mike gained a new appreciation for the enhanced technology that allows for better visualization during surgical procedures and the equipment that helps to support better patient care and outcomes.
Mike spent over 30 years as an attorney who worked alongside Baptist Health’s legal department to represent the hospital and medical staff during issues of governance. “The time I spent with the staff through my work allowed me to get to know them on a personal level and to understand that their hearts were truly in the care they provide to their patients. After becoming a patient myself and seeing the level of care firsthand, the commitment I witnessed was something that has stayed with me long after I was discharged.”
Living 15 minutes from Baptist Health Louisville, Mike recognizes the huge resource a sophisticated medical facility is for the local community. “I am grateful,” he said. “I am thankful for the resources we have access to that reduce barriers to care for those who do not have the means to travel. The conscious expansion of the scope of care and the specialty of services inspired me to want to get involved and help further the mission of healthcare for our region.”
Mike believes that Baptist Health ‘walks the talk.’ “It is evident across all departments that Baptist Health isn’t all talk, they ensure that their actions back up their words,” he said. “This is an organization that has the best interest of patients at heart and is made up of employees who truly care about the people they are healing. It is energizing to see people investing in the future of healthcare and support an organization that gives so much to so many. It is something I am proud to be a part of, and that I am confident will be beneficial to everyone from my loved ones to strangers.”
