Relentless support during times of need

For Jerry Jackson quality healthcare in the comfort of what he calls home is important.
“At this very moment, somebody, somewhere in our community is in need of exceptional healthcare,” he says. “To have access to a high level of care without having the burden of needing to leave and the ability to be cared for by friends, family and loved ones is priceless.”
Jerry is no stranger to the importance of giving back. As chancellor at the University of the Cumberlands, he gives back through his dedication to his students and staff. As an individual, he gives back through his investment in Baptist Health Foundation Corbin.
“Before my personal involvement with the hospital, I made the assumption that what the hospital does or is able to do is based off of financial aid,” he says. “I quickly realized that just scratches the surface of what is needed to run a hospital. We must contribute if we want to meet the needs of our community. What I’m able to give is small in comparison to what I hope it gives back to others.”
Jerry’s own experience through the loss of his sister deepened his connection to the hospital. Radiologists at Baptist Health Corbin identified inflammatory breast cancer — something often misdiagnosed — and provided swift solutions, allowing for more time spent together. He hopes his support will give back some of what Baptist Health Corbin has given his own family.
“I think giving is the right thing for all of us to do. It is rewarding to be part of the mission of our local hospital. To remain at the forefront of healthcare, we have to use the tools we have, which is our connections. Healthcare is undergoing challenging times, but despite that, they are relentless in providing support during our times of need, and now it is time for us to return the favor. If we want to ensure we have access to the care we need when we need it, then we need to be part of the solution.”
