‘It’s my way of remembering him’

Dianna Green spent two years at her husband’s side as he went through cancer treatment at Baptist Health Hardin. The years were physically and emotionally taxing, but she recalls many instances when his caregivers provided comfort and sparked moments of joy.

“Whether we were at the cancer center or the hospital, everybody was just awesome,” says the Elizabethtown resident. “Everybody was so compassionate and kind. They just went out of their way to help.”

Upon learning of her husband’s love of world travel, Dianna says one nurse brought in a Tibetan singing bowl she’d procured on one of her own trips. “They had a great time comparing expeditions. It was so special.”

And then there was the dancing.

While Glenn was receiving palliative care at the hospital in his final weeks, a music therapist brought in a keyboard and played for the couple. “We like to dance a lot,” Dianna recalls. “At that time, even though he was in the hospital, he felt good enough to get up and dance. We were able to have a few last dances.”

Following her husband’s death, Dianna honored his memory with a donation to Baptist Health Foundation Hardin. “It’s my way of remembering him.”

In recent years, Baptist Health Hardin has grown “leaps and bounds,” Dianna says, and she hopes her contributions will support ongoing efforts to expand and innovate. She knows how important it was for her husband to receive treatment close to home, and she wants to help even more patients and their families get that same level of care.

“I think it’s important to the community that there is medical care like this right here. You don’t need to go to a big city to get quality care. All the doctors and nurses were just top notch."
