Expansion and Renovation Project

In recent years, a projected shortage in nursing has captured national headlines. A closer look tells a different story. With experienced nurses retiring at rapid rates, the real concern is a lack of educated, experienced and specialized nurses. The new Center for Nursing Excellence here at Baptist Health has a unique opportunity to use clinical simulation and experiential learning techniques to integrate cognitive, technical and behavioral skills. Professional practice, professional development, innovation and community partnerships would benefit from funding to recruit, retain and provide for the most experienced and compassionate nurses available anywhere.

Innovative Learning Center

The Innovative Learning Center will house over 12,000 square feet of classroom, meeting and event space and will be capable of serving all Baptist hospitals and entities, particularly the Kentuckiana Region, including Baptist Health Louisville, Baptist Health La Grange, Baptist Health Floyd, Eastpoint Surgery Center and the Baptist Health Medical Group. The center will also host community events for groups whose missions align with the mission, vision and values of Baptist Health.

Experiential Simulation Lab

In a high-risk, high-tech industry such as healthcare, it is critical to provide employees with the opportunity to make “safe mistakes” in clinical care and learn from them without causing harm. Simulation allows the acquisition of clinical skills through hands-on practice and has proven to have many advantages over traditional classroom education, ultimately improving patient safety and reducing healthcare costs.
